The Friends of the Castlemaine Art Museum (CAM) aim to widen the audience of the Gallery within the local communities, Victoria, interstate and overseas, and to raise funds to support the gallery.
For an additional one-off cost of $5 for financial CAM memberships, or for people taking out new memberships, you can join the Friends group and participate in the lively events planned, including the monthly CAM conversations, bus excursions, the annual Christmas lunch and other exciting and fun events in the company of like-minded art enthusiasts. Non-members are welcomed to the CAM Conversations and to any event not restricted to the Friends.
Trip to Ballarat Art Museum
All CAM Conversations are from 3-5pm, usually on the last Sunday of the month, except in August:
- CAMCon4 27th May 2018, Dr Dugald McLellan, who lives locally is an Italian art historian, will talk about his engagement with Orvieto and its rich cultural heritage as the context within which Luca Signorelli’s dramatic apocalyptic paintings in the Cathedral were commissioned. Dr McLellan is a writer, academic and bon vivant.
- CAMCon5 24th June 2018, Phil Elson now resident in Castlemaine will talk about his work and the experiences and people that have inspired him along his route to becoming an esteemed potter. The recipient of an artist’s residency in Spain, Phil is sure to tell us about the significance and influence this had on his practice.
- CAMCon6 29th July 2018, Bill Caldwell, President 20 Melbourne Painters, is a tonalist painter in oils and a teacher at Peninsula Arts Society. President of 20 Melbourne Painters Society established in 1918 it conducts the biennial A. M. E. Bale prize for emerging artists. 20 Melbourne Painters exhibitions are committed to showing realist and impressionist paintings.
- CAMCon7 19th August 2018, John Wolseley, born in the UK and now living in the Central Goldfields, John is famous for his interpretations of the Australian bush, including its flora and fauna in his attempt to combine science and art and interpret how things work. Currently exhibiting at Australian Galleries (May 1-20) and with a collaborative touring exhibition of Midawarr/Harvest: The Art of Mulkun Wirrpanda and John Wolseley.
