Archie & Amalie Colquhoun
11 April - 16 May
Born in the same year, 1894, and coming from very different
social and career backgrounds, Archie and Amalie Colquhoun both
found in the teaching of Max Meldrum a firm foundation on which
they could develop their painting. Their life together was devoted
to this rigorous exploration through their work, and to communicating
the tonalist vision of painting to their students. They were
two of Melbourne's finest painters in the twentieth century.
Guest Curator Katherine Kovacic has brought together 68 paintings
from state, regional and private collections, as well as memorabilia
and photographs.
