Associates of Rupert Bunny

28 February - 4 April

This exhibition coincides with the major exhibition Rupert Bunny artist in Paris at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, which will also travel to the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of South Australia during 2010.

The Castlemaine exhibition complements that major exhibition by showing works of Australian artists who were students and colleagues of Bunny when he returned to Australia permanently in 1933 after decades of success in Paris. In Melbourne, his work was not so well received and he relied on teaching to survive. Although these artists are not well known today their art deserves to be re-exhibited and assessed by a new audience.

The exhibition includes rarely seen works by Geoffrey Anderson, Arthur Lindsay, John Munro, Robert Campbell, James Farrell and James McMahon. There is also a collection of oil sketches of the South of France by Bunny.
